Lesson 1: Develop your floor plans and BIM models
Archibus Getting Started Archibus Foundations: CAD/BIM Specialist
Lesson 1: Develop your floor plans and BIM models
To effectively use Archibus, you must have floor plan drawings.
Depending on your CAD skills, you can outsource your drawing development or work with CAD or BIM yourself.
You will work on BIM models and CAD drawings locally, and then publish the drawings to the SaaS for use in Workplace, Space Console, and reports.
As a prerequisite to all the below procedures, make your drawings available locally. Lesson 2 details how to do this.
Option 1: Outsource your drawing development
If you do not have CAD skills, you can outsource your floor plan development.
Option 2: Develop CAD floor plans
If you are a CAD user and have the Archibus Smart Client Extension for AutoCAD, you can develop a floor plan in CAD and connect it to Archibus. First, make your drawing available on your local machine.
1. Prepare the floor plan.
2. Create your gross and room polylines.
3. Register polylines and publish the floor plan.
Option 3: Start from a scanned drawing
You might have a scanned drawing of the floor. In this case, you can develop a CAD plan from the scanned drawing and use the Archibus Smart Client Extension for AutoCAD to connect the floor plan to Archibus. First, make the scanned drawing available on your local machine.
Option 4: Develop a Revit model
If you are a BIM user and have the Archibus Smart Client Extension for Revit, you can develop a BIM model and connect it to Archibus. First, make your BIM model available on your local machine.
For an overview of the Smart Client Extension for Revit, see:
1. Register buildings, floors, and rooms.
2. Register the internal gross area.
3. Publish as enterprise graphics for use in Web Central and mobile.
Option 5: Create a Revit model from a scanned drawing
You might have a scanned drawing of the floor. First, make this available on your local machine.
