Overview to Database Administration Issues (Oracle)

In terms of day-to-day operation, you use Archibus with an Oracle database server in almost exactly the same way you use Archibus with other database servers. Regardless of which database server you are using, you run exactly the same Archibus program, which looks exactly the same and supports almost identical functionality. In fact, you can connect to different database servers from the same Archibus client workstation.

The few usage considerations specific to Oracle are discussed here, with the most significant differences listed first. System managers may wish to inform their end-users about differences that affect their site.

In general, you use the standard Oracle tools, such as the Oracle Data Manager, to perform database administration tasks, such as regularly backing up the Oracle project data. Likewise you use Oracle’s import and export utilities for moving to newer versions of the Archibus database rather than using the Database Update Wizard.

However, there are several topics specific to administering Archibus databases using Oracle and these are discussed in this section.
