A workflow is an expression of a specific business policy, such as the process of addressing a maintenance problem from request to approval, execution, and close-out. A workflow can involve several  roles within the organization, such as requestor, approver, and assignee (the worker assigned to execute the job). As an item moves through a company's workflow, its status changes from requested, to approved, in process, and so forth.
