Self-Scoring your Project against a Certification Standard
Before you submit a certification application, you will want to self-evaluate your building and determine how closely it meets the certification standard . By taking the time to self-evaluate, you can identify problem areas and correct them before you submit your application.
When you self-evaluate your building, you enter scores for each of the environmental credits . You can then run the program's routines to calculate your score so that you know how close you are to attaining certification at a particular level. Perhaps you'll discover that you are very close to moving to the next level and it is worth changing some practices so that you can attain this higher certification level.
When entering your self-scores , be sure to make an honest and complete evaluation of how your building meets the standard's credits. The more honestly and thoroughly you make this evaluation, the closer your self-score will match the actual scores issued by the organization that is overseeing the certification standard.
To enter your self-scores for credits:
- Assess your building and how it meets each of the standard's criteria.
- Select Enter Scores.
- In the left panes, select your rating project and the credit category containing the category for which you want to self-score.
-
In the right top pane, choose the
credit
or
sub-credit
for which you want to enter your self-score.
Note: If your certification is composed of credits that have a series of subcredits, be sure to edit the subcredit and enter the score for it and do not edit the credit. For example, suppose you are following the LEED standard and have established a credit for Water Efficient Landscaping and a series of subcredits for each percentage of improvement. If you qualify for the subcredit of 75 percent reduction, be sure to edit the subcredit record; do not edit the record for the Water Efficient Landscaping credit.
-
In the bottom right pane, complete these fields:
Self-Score Enter the value that indicates how well your building meets the criteria for this credit. Capital Cost Enter the cost of changes that you must make to your building in order to meet this criteria. See Associating Financial Data with your Self-Scores .
Annual Savings Enter the monetary amount that you will save per year as a result of meeting this criteria. See Associating Financial Data with your Self-Scores .
Score Notes Enter any notes about this particular item. For example, if you have a supporting document for your evaluation, you can note the section of the document that supports your self-score value.
- Repeat this process to enter the scores for all credits and subcredits for all categories.
- When you have finished entering credits and subcredits, choose Update Totals . The system totals your subcredit values and updates the corresponding credits.
