Define Container Types

When an SDS is assigned to a location, you can enter information about the container in which the material is stored. Containers are grouped into categories, and within categories you can group containers by type. This aids in organizing a potentially large data set.

Use the Hazardous Materials / Background Data - Hazmat / Define Container Types task to define the types used at your site. Before entering a container type, make sure that the category to which it belongs has been entered into the system. See Define Container Categories .

The extent to which you develop container types for your container categories depends upon operations at your site, and your reporting goals.

If you need to generate the following reports, you should define container types:

  • Background Data - Reports / Container Types List report. See Container Reports.
  • The Chemical Constituent Inventory report. When you associate an SDS with a location, the quantity associated with the container type together with the number of containers is used to calculate total quantity(volume) for the Chemical Constituent Inventory report .
  • The Material Inventory report. This report calculates quantity based on the number of containers. See Material Inventory report.

Define Container Types task

When the view is first presented, it lists all container categories in the system; click on a container category and the system displays its container types in the middle panel. Smart Search consoles in each of the grids allow you to filter or sort data on any of the displayed columns. For example you might want to filter on categories that start with USEPA or look for container types that include the word "drum."
