Updating a Rating Project throughout the Certification Process

As you move through the process of self-scoring your building against a certification standard and applying for certification, you will need to periodically update your rating project with details about the current status.

At any point in the certification process, you can attach supporting documents and notes to your project. See:

Note: Depending on how closely you want to update your rating project during the certification process, you may need to define additional statuses for the Certification Level field of the Certification Standards table. For example, you may need to add "Uncertified" and "All But Certified" so that when you specify the current certification level (by editing the Certified Level field of the Rating Projects table) these values are available to choose.

Get started

First, you will initially define your rating project as described in Defining a Rating Project.

  • Complete Certification Status with In Process.
  • Complete Certified Level with a value such as Not Certified.

Apply for certification

  • Complete Certification Status with Submitted.
  • Complete Application Date with the date that you submitted your application.
  • If this is the first time you are applying for certification, complete Registration Date to indicate that the certification process is formally beginning; that is, you are registering the building with the certifying authority.
  • Complete Certified Level with a value such as Not Certified.

Receive certification

  • Complete Certification Status with Certified.
  • Complete Date Certified with the date on which you received certification.
  • Complete Certification ID with the identification number supplied by the certifying organization.
  • Complete Certified Level with the level that you obtained, such as Silver or Gold.
  • Once you receive certification, you will want to enter your official scores . See Enter Official Scores from a Certification Effort.

Do not receive certification

You might encounter a situation in which you apply for certification, and it is not granted. Instead, the organization sends you comments about your application so that you can improve and try again. In this case, you might update these fields:

  • Complete Certification Status with "Responding to Comments."
  • Complete Certified Level with "Not Certified."
  • You will want to enter any documents and comments from the organization concerning why the certification failed.

Prepare for recertification

When it comes time to apply for certification renewal, you create a new rating project with a new analysis period and a new certification level goal.

It is not necessary to close out older rating projects from previous years (by setting the Certification Status value to Closed), as you may want to compare your current rating project with the previous rating projects for this standard. However, eventually you will want to set an older rating project to have a Certification Status of Closed so that it will be omitted from some reports.

Do not apply for certification

A site may wish to go through the scoring process but not for various reasons no formally submit their application for certification. For example, the self-score process may indicate that a building meets all criteria and can be informally categorized as “All But Certified” (ABC). In this case, you could:

  • Complete Certification Status with "Unverified Certification."
  • Complete Certified Level as "All But Certified."
