Area by Location or Facility Type Chart
The Area by Location chart gives an estimate of the total area your organization has, shown on a timeline, aggregated by month. You can generate this report for buildings or land, and can select the geographic location used to group the data. For buildings, you can also generate the report grouped by facility type.
You can filter the data shown in the Area by Location chart by geographic location, ownership (currently owned, currently leased, or both), or time span. See Filtering KPI Charts .
If you group the chart by geographic location, you can click on a bar or line in the graph to drill down to see the details for the data for that item. For example, if you click on the line for a city in a chart showing buildings grouped by city, you see a chart with data for only that city. You can drill down to view a single portfolio item (building or land). See Drilldown for KPI Charts Grouped by Geography.
Generating the Chart
You can generate this report from the Portfolio / Buildings or Land processes. By default, the Area by City Chart is included on the Buildings Dashboard and Land Dashboard.

Business Result
The Area by Location chart enables you to assess how much area you have in specific locations, and, for buildings, you can also see how much area you have by facility type , for example, manufacturing or office. You can also assess trends by looking at the estimated area by location over time, or look at future projections based on lease expirations.
The Estimated Area by Location chart:
- Helps you assess how you are currently using your facility areas, and what the trends are based on historical data.
- Provides you with data to answer the question: Can your real estate portfolio meet your organization's changing needs?
Chart Example
The below image shows an example of an estimated area by facility type. By default, the chart shows your owned and leased area in all geographic locations for the past year, but you can apply a filter to restrict the data to a particular location, time span, or whether you own or lease the area.
