A safety officer ensures workplace safety and is typically responsible for:

Practices will vary from site to site, but a safety officer typically preforms these tasks:

  • Prepare a site-specific safety plan and medical plan
  • Identify occupational safety and health hazards.
  • Monitor workers for exposure to health-hazardous conditions.
  • Mitigate or eliminate unsafe conditions, operations, or hazards.
  • Provide safety training to workers.
  • Maintain required PPE for workers.
  • Comply with government regulations, such as US OSHA standards.
  • Investigate and document workplace mishaps (incidents) , corrective actions taken on the scene, resulting injuries, and ways to improve safety in the future.
