Archibus Smart Client Extension for Revit

BIM Explorer: Overview

The BIM Explorer is a tool for navigating complicated Revit models, and locating assets in ways that support the overall Archibus view of assets. The BIM Explorer shows all levels, models, categories, and assets contained in the current model, as well as in linked models. The BIM Explorer appears as a pane in Revit.

The BIM Explorer eases information flow between Revit models and Archibus databases, and eases the navigation of Revit models by presenting them from an Archibus perspective. Whereas the Revit project browser emphasizes Revit views, the BIM Explorer emphasizes Revit levels, or Archibus floors.

With the goal of intuitive navigation for both Revit modelers and Archibus users, the BIM Explorer enables you to:

  • view and work on assets in the model by floor, rather than by design or construction views. With the BIM Explorer, you can view contents organized from a space planner's or asset manager’s perspective.
  • dig deeply into a model's details. Display all elements in a model and linked models that count as assets in the Archibus database, such as rooms, equipment, and so on.
  • retrieve information by selecting a building component, asset, or item in the Explorer's Tree View, then reviewing all information relevant to that element.
  • display Revit parameters and Archibus asset details in the same place. When you select an asset in Tree View, it is highlighted in the Revit drawing.

  • Catalog and edit data directly from the BIM Explorer. For example:
    • Update the Archibus database with Revit model data by selecting data in the Revit model's Tree View, then running the Catalog function. You can verify data import in Smart Client after work in Revit model is finished.

    • Modify information in the Archibus database by selecting a model element in Tree View, then running Edit Data. The changes you enter with Edit Data are updated to the corresponding fields in the Archibus database.

  • Control which Revit levels, views, categories, and Archibus asset types appear in the Explorer's Tree View.

  • Switch to any view.
