Starting in CAD by Developing a Group Inventory

Instead of allocating space using the Portfolio Forecasting Wizard, you can create groups by drawing polyline boundaries in AutoCAD, using the Group Inventory method of the Space Inventory application. You can also identify the floor gross areas, the vertical penetration areas, and building service areas to calculate the Floor Usable Area . For more information, see the topic Space Inventory / Group Inventory (Process Overview.)

The group inventory you copy can be based on either group Area (CAD-derived) or Manual Area (manually entered area for the group). The group Area (gp.area) from the group inventory is copied to the group Area for the allocation record, and the group Manual area (gp.area_manual) is copied to the Manual Area (gp.area_manual) for the group allocation event.

You do not need to have a group CAD inventory to allocate space using portfolio forecasting. You can use the Add Building action to add floor area based on room Area (rm. area) or suite Area Usable (su.area_usable) to the forecast. However, if you do not have a suite or room inventory and would like to use measured areas in your forecast, developing a group inventory would be a quick way to get started.
