Modeling Workstations and “Rooms within Rooms”
You may have situations in which you have a Revit room that contains workstations or other “rooms within rooms” conditions. To model these conditions:
-
Create Workstation Boundaries
- Use Revit room separation lines to draw around workstation boundaries. Revit will create a new room within the outer room.
-
To draw room separation lines, from the Ribbon, select
Home / Room & Area / Rooms
list and select Room Separation Line.
-
Tag the Room
-
Use the Revit Home / Room & Area / Tag Room command to create a Room tag for the workstation.
-
-
Number or Data Edit
- Use the Archibus / Asset / Number or the Archibus / Asset / Data Edit command to give each workstation a room number.
- Typically, enclosed workstation use the “alpha suffix” option. For instance, if the enclosing room is room “101”, then you will number workstations in the form “101A”, “101B”, “101C”, etc.
-
Assign the Openplan Room Category
- Using the Data Edit command, assign the enclosing room (for example, “101”) the “OPENPLAN” Room Category value.
- This Room Category has a “Calculations Used In” value of “No Totals”.
-
Publish Enterprise Graphics
- Use the Archibus / Enterprise Graphics / Publish 2D or Publish 3D commands to update the graphics index of your Revit model so you can use these changes on the Web.
- The graphics will show both the enclosing room and the nested workstations as intelligent assets. See Publish Enterprise Graphics directly from Revit.
