Define Zones

Typically, CAD users will create records in the Zones table when they define zone asset symbols using the Draw Zones task .

This task presents the Zones table so that you can review the zone information without accessing the drawings. Typically, you will want to edit your zones from the drawing, but you can use this task to:

  • change the highlight pattern of a zone.
  • review zone information independently of the drawings.
  • create zone records that you will later link to drawing polylines.

The table contains the following fields:

  • Building Code/Floor Code – The building and floor on which this zone is located. These fields, combined with Zone Code, uniquely identify each record.
  • Zone Code – The identifier of the zone. Enter a code for the zone that when combined with the Building Code and Floor Code will be unique. You may wish to number the zone according to the building system, such as entering a value of FIRE-HQ-18-01 for Zone Code.
  • Description – Use this field to describe the area covered by this zone.
  • System Code – From the validating Systems table, choose the building system that this zone covers. For example, if you are drawing the zones for the sprinkler system, you would choose Sprinkler from the validating Systems table.

Note : You typically develop multiple zones for each building system. You do not map each zone to a particular piece of sprinkler equipment, but you link multiple zone to the entire sprinkler system. Similarly, you do not link a zone to a particular piece of HVAC equipment, but you develop multiple zones for the entire HVAC system.

  • Highlight as Outline -- Determines whether the zone is highlighted by a highlight pattern or an outline. If set to Yes, the system use a fat polyline displayed in the color specified for outlines from the Highlight Pattern Acad field (below). If set to No, the system uses the highlight pattern as defined in the Highlight Pattern Acad field.
  • Highlight Pattern Acad -- Displays the highlight pattern information for the selected zone. This information is used by the system to highlight this zone in the drawing.
