Search by Query Model

You may encounter situations in which you need to search for items in a model by their model properties, such as their level, category, family, or type. For example, you can find all mechanical equipment that has 220 volts. Searching by the model property is particularly useful when you want to find any element in the model, even if the item is not cataloged.

Procedure

  1. Load the BIM Viewer and load a model.
  2. Open the Query Model command by choosing it from the magnifying glass icon on the Viewer's toolbar.

  1. The Query model toolbar contains:
Option Description
Prefix
Catalog Asset button

This links your assets in your models to Archibus. See Catalog Assets in BIM Models
Select button
Clear button Click the Clear button to clear the query.
Reset View button Click the Reset View button and the model resets to the original view.
Export button Click the Export icon and then select either DOCX or XLSX. Your query results are exported to the selected format.

Click the Settings icon and the dialog displays. This is the 'Query model' panel settings, where you can set the following:

  • Dock Position drop-down - You can change where the 'Query model' panel; select from Dock Top, Dock Bottom, Dock Left, or Dock Right.
  • Opacity - Change the opacity of the 'Query model' panel.
  • Row Height - Change the query results row height.
  • Header Text Color - Change the header column text.
  • Row Text Color - Change color of the query results rows.
  • Zoom in to highlight - Check this if you want the model to zoom to the items meeting your query.
  • Multiple Level View - Select either Hidden or Ghosting.

Click the Save button to save your changes, and if you need to go back to the default settings, then click Defaults.

When you have finished, click the Settings icon to close the dialog.
  1. Complete the resulting Query Model form with the properties of your search.
Option Description
Level

Select the levels.
Category

Select the categories. The form lists all BIM categories that are found in the model. If you have selected a level that does not have the chosen category, the model will remain in its current state and the Count will be zero.

After you specify a category, the model zooms to show the items in the category and highlights the items in red. (This is the default behavior. See Zoom option below.) It also displays a count of the found items in the Query Model form.
Family

Select the families. The model zooms to show the items in the family, highlights the items in red, and returns a count.
Type

Select the types. The model zooms to show the items in the type, highlights the items in red, and returns a count.

  1. From the Properties drop-down, select a property.
  2. If needed, check the Filter as date? check box.
  3. From the Operator drop-down select the operator. For example, Null, Not Null, Equals, and so on depending on the property you selected.
  4. Either select the value or enter it in the field. For example, you can choose Comments as the Property and Operator of Not Null to look for items that do have a Comment.

As with the other query fields, the Query Model returns a count and highlights the items matching your query.
  1. As you enter the Category and optionally continue to further refine your search, the model zooms in to show the items meeting your search criteria and highlights them.
  2. You can continue to complete the 'Query Model' panel to change the query and locate additional items. If your changed query does not find any results, the command retains the current zoom and removes the highlight.
  3. When you see the assets that meet your restrictions, you can review all the model properties of an item by selecting it and invoking the Properties command from the Forge toolbar at the bottom of the Viewer.
  4. When you have finished using the 'Query Model' panel them click the X icon to close it.

Note: When you access the Query Model command from the Catalog BIM Models view , it provides information on cataloged assets.
