Support for Role Based Access Control (RBAC) for Applications in Exchange Online

  • General availability: August 13, 2024

In May 2024, we announced that Microsoft was ending support for RBAC for Application Impersonation in Exchange Online. In this update, we have added support for RBAC for Applications in Exchange Online which does not need to use the Application Impersonation role.

Why this matters

Condeco Exchange Sync currently uses RBAC for Application Impersonation to create and manage calendar events in Microsoft Exchange resource calendars using Exchange Web Services (EWS). Moving to RBAC for Applications allows Exchange Sync to continue to access these calendars when Microsoft removes support for RBAC for Application Impersonation.

What customers need to do

Existing Condeco Exchange Sync customers: You can continue to use your current service account, which uses RBAC for Application Impersonation, up until February 2025. We will reach out to you in the coming weeks with details on how you can switch before that date.

New customers and existing customers who need to create a new service account: You must use RBAC for Applications from today.

Customers using the Condeco Microsoft 365 integration (Smart Calendar) are unaffected by this change.
