Generate an Invoice from a completed Work Order
Automatically
To generate an invoice from a work order, invoicing must be enabled in the Work Order's work type settings. Then you can convert your estimates to invoices by setting up your estimate workflow in the invoice settings. See Set up Estimate and Invoice Workflows.
Manually
A completed work order must have the following, for it to generate an invoice:
- (A) Work Type - the work type, which has the setting "Do you invoice for this Work Type?" set to Yes.
- (B) Customer - have a customer assigned and remember the work type setting can have the setting "Require a Customer" set to Yes.
If it doesn't have both, the work order will simply close without generating an invoice.
- (C) Work Orders closed without any services listed (only labor entries) will produce a blank invoice, forcing you to fill out the invoice manually.
Update a Blank Invoice
If you find the invoice is blank, then click the WO number to find out what labor was added and you may need to speak to the technician about the service items. Then you can go back to the invoice and add the line items for parts, labor, or other costs. Learn how to update an invoice in Create a new Invoice.
