An inventory bin system is a labeling method that helps locate items quickly and efficiently by giving each part an address.

This is accomplished by using the elements in your storage space to track down the specific location of each item.

For example: a mailing address will name an or a region and contains smaller or more specific elements nested within.

  • State
    • City
      • Street
        • Address

A part's bin location works in a similar way.

  • Zone
    • Aisle
      • Rack
        • Shelf

In Eptura Asset, the nested regions are called Bin Layers.

Bin Layers Example

Let's look at an example where the Bin System is set up with the following elements:

Zone, Aisle, Rack, Shelf, and Bin

Locating a part looks like this:

This entire space is Zone,  Aisle B,  Rack 03,  Shelf B, and the Bin is 02.

In the system, the bin location can be shorten to 1, B, 03, B, 02.

Create a Bin System

Remember, when creating your bin structure, keep in mind that it may look very different based on the way your storage space is set up.

  • You may use as many or as few layers as needed.
  • Layers and bins can be named any way you want, however, it is recommended to use short or abbreviated labels.
  • Especially if you have many layers.
  • Each warehouse has its own system.

For example, here is a different labeling scheme for a warehouse with rack, bays, and levels.

Each rack is separated into 3 sections called bays".

In this Bin System, every shelf is called "levels" and it is given a letter name and contains numerical positions to identify a part's specific location.
