Step 1. Map out the Truck Asset Hierarchy
In this example, we have mapped out the following Asset Hierarchy.
This Asset Hierarchy contains the levels:
- Level 5 - This contains the Class | Category | Sub category, found in your Asset Settings.
- Level 6 - This contains the asset called Heavy Truck.
- Level 7 - This contains the assets, Engine, Transmission, and Suspension.
- Level 8 - This contains the assets, Fuel Injection System, Cooling System, Oil Pump, Clutch Assembly, Shock Absorber, Leaf Spring, Ball Joint, and Bushing.
- Level 9 - This contains your parts, found in your Inventory Module.
Step 2. Filter the Asset Grid for the Entity/Site
It is important to filter the grid for the Entity/Site, so that you assign assets that belong to the same Entity/Site.
- Click the Entity heading column's Filter
icon.
- Select the Entity you want to create the Asset Hierarchy for.
- Click the OK button and the grid is fitlered for the Entity/Site.
Step 3. Assign the Asset(s) to their Node Level
Before you can assign a parent, the asset must have a node level of 6, 7, or 8.
In this example, assets are assigned to level 7 and you can use these instructions for the other levels.
- From the grid, select the assets that will be assigned to level 7.
- Click the Actions button, and then select the Assign node level. The Assign node levels dialog displays.
- From the Node level drop-down, select the Assign node level.
- Click the Assign button.
Step 4. Assign the Node Level 7 to the Parent Asset (Level 6)
Now, you are ready to assign the parent level. In this example, Node Level 7 is assigned to the parent asset, Heavy Truck 102.
- From the grid, select the asset(s).
- Click Actions button and then select the Assign parent. The Assets lookup form displays.
- Either search or browse for the asset.
- Select the asset and the parent is assigned.
If you need to change the parent asset, then you can repeat the steps and choose a different parent asset. You will be prompted with the message "One or more of the assets selected already have a parent assigned. Do you want to continue?"
Step 5. Assign the Node Level 8 to the Parent Asset (Level 7)
This will build out the node levels in the Asset Hierarchy.
- From the grid, select the asset(s).
- Click Actions button and then select the Assign parent. The Assets lookup form displays.
- Either search or browse for the asset.
- Select the asset and the parent is assigned.
Step 6. View the Asset Hierarchy
As you build your Asset Hierarchy, we recommend you review the hierarchy.
- From the menu, navigate to Asset > Asset Hierarchy.
- Either search for the asset or you can click the Expand All to show the hierarchy.
