Asset Hierarchy Overview
Early Access
Overview
Maintenance teams and facility managers often struggle with complex asset structures, inefficient maintenance planning and execution, and challenges in detailed asset tracking. These issues can lead to difficulties in identifying the root causes of equipment failures, resulting in increased downtime, higher operational costs, and reduced overall efficiency.
Asset Hierarchies will give you the ability to:
Structure
- Structured asset management lets you add a parent: child relationship to the asset object, allowing for a structured and hierarchical view of assets.
Targeting
- Streamline maintenance planning and execution by providing a clear and structured view of asset relationships.
- Targeted maintenance introduces clear definitions and enables the mapping of equipment units, subunits, components, or parts to specific assets.
- Resulting in minimize downtime by ensuring that the right parts are available when needed, and by quickly identifying and addressing issues.
Tracking
- Enhanced training and identification lets you find the root causes of equipment failures, leading to more effective and targeted maintenance actions. The user interface supports an asset type tree, enabling detailed and flexible asset tracking.
Concept
Before you start working on your Asset Hierarchy, it is very important to understand the concepts and how the assets are mapped. The Asset Hierarchy is based on different levels.

Here you see the Levels 1 to 5 that define the Location and the Levels 6 to 9 that define the Asset.
On the right of the diagram, you see how these levels are defined in Eptura Asset:
- Level 1 to 4 - These levels are your Sites were you define the location of the building, plant, warehouse, etc.
- Level 5 - This level is the Asset Module Settings, where you define your assets by Class, Category, and Sub category.
- Level 6 to 8 - These levels are where your assets exist in the Asset Module and this is flexible depending on what these assets are. This is where Nodes Levels define the Asset Hierarchy and these use the numbering, Node 6, Node 7, and Node 8.
- Level 9 - This level is the Inventory Module, where your Parts and/or Components exist.
We have created several diagrams as examples to get you started, see Map out your Asset Hierarchy.
Sites and Node Levels
When you are in the Asset Module, you will see the Node Level column and it is important to remember (A) Entity/Site that will contain the (B) Node Levels and you must define the asset's node level within the same Entity/Site.
In this example, the filter is applied to XYZ Enterprises Inc and you can see the assets with node levels.

Example
The best way to learn about how to create your Asset Hierarchies is by an example, see Create an Asset Hierarchy for a Truck.
